This Summer saw the welcome return of the Summer Lunch Club. This is the fourth year of this initiative that is a real team effort for The Resurgam Trust. Lead by the Resurgam Healthy Living Centre the club could not be delivered without a brilliant team of community volunteers and support from The Resurgam Youth Initiative and 3 of our social enterprises The Highway Inn Bar & Kitchen, Laganview Enterprise Centre and Premier Taxi Company. Our club provides a nutritious meal, drinks and snacks three days per week for three weeks in Old Warren and in Hillhall. Our results show this year we provided:
18 lunch sessions (9 in each centre) over 3 weeks
656 lunches eaten and increase of 96 meals from 2018 lunch club
461 meals were eaten in Old Warren Lunch Club and 195 in Hillhall
On average 67 children attended every lunch session
All children registered attended a minimum of 3 sessions
17 volunteers ran the lunch clubs an increase from 13 in 2018.
306 volunteer hours were contributed to run the club
48 volunteer hours for training volunteers
We get feedback from our club members and their parents who tell us what they think about the food and the experience a full report is currently being compiled and will be shared on our website shortly.
To support the delivery of Lunch Club we were supported by South Eastern Trust Community Dietetics team; Libraries NI, Robbie Butler MLA, PSNI Lisburn and Castlereagh Community Team and People First Family Support Project who came to speak with families, tell stories and play games. Thanks also to Stuart Bill from Lagan Valley Vineyard who helped co-ordinate the programme and volunteered his time.
Lunch Club would not be possible without the engagement of our teams of volunteers, parent helpers, children, young people and parents in our communities. We are particularly grateful this year to benefit from a kind sponsorship from FonaCab Lisburn, Lynas Food Service and with a grant also received from NI Housing Executive.
