The Hopefuls : Next meeting 4TH September

Meeting on the first Monday of the month, the Hopefuls is a group for women living with chronic pain.  The group offers support, input from specialists and services, sharing tips and advice all with a cup of tea and a laugh.

Are you a smoker?

Do you think you should stop but aren’t ready to make the change?

Do you want to stop smoking but aren’t sure what to do and what could make it easier?

Call into the Healthy Living Centre during September to speak to our trained advisors, have your carbon monoxide tested and see what you can do to manage your smoking, cut down or prepare to stop.

Community Food Initiative

Resurgam is one approximately 11 community food initiatives funded by Safe Food operating across Ireland (North and South).  This three-year project is focused on:

Year 1: early years

Year 2: primary school aged children and families

Year 3: young people

The main aim of the Community Food Initiative (CFI) is to positively influence the eating habits of families and to identify and promote best practice under the following CFI themes:

  1. Supporting an increased awareness/knowledge around healthy eating
  2. Healthy shopping
  3. Budgeting and food/meal planning skills
  4. Cooking skills
  5. Improving the availability and access to safe and healthy food in the community and complementing existing structures that offer healthy options, e.g. community café’s, events etc.
  6. Preventing food wastage, food safety and hygiene.

This year (2017) is year 2 of the project.  Look out for our next networking event in September/October and take part in our 3 small grant projects:

1: Atlas Centre Lisburn, Summer cooking scheme

2: Edible School and community gardens – linking with Old Warren Primary School and Dig Deep Community Garden.

3: Cooking Classes for Parents with children of primary school age

Are you a parent of a child in primary school?  Would you like to liven up mealtimes?

In September, we will be running a 4 week cooking course for parents to learn how to cook family favourites and something a bit different.  The course is likely to be on a morning time – day to be confirmed.  If interested please contact the Healthy Living Centre to reserve your place.
